It seems Mission: Impossible – Fallout director Christopher McQuarrie will have no objection helming a DC Extended Universe film, Man of Steel 2 or maybe Green Lantern, if and only if the film’s story clicks him.
During a recent interview with Screen Rant for Mission: Impossible – Fallout, when McQuarrie was asked to comment on the rumors of him directing a Man of Steel sequel, he replied that he is just interested in making a film with a good story.
“To me, I’m interested in a good story,” McQuarrie said. “That’s really what it is. I mean, when Man of Steel came up, it was because somebody had asked me, did I want to work with Henry again? Which I would in a second. I go through the door that opens.”
McQuarrie expressed an interest in directing Man of Steel 2 on Twitter back in April this year. Interestingly, he has also been attached to the potential DCEU film, Green Lantern Corps, which is rumored to feature Mission Impossible star Tom Cruise in the titular role.
During the interview when McQuarrie was asked if he would like to direct Cruise in DCEU’s Green Lantern movie, he said that though they do frequently talk about their next projects, they’ve never discussed that particular project yet.
“You know, I got to say, Tom and I have never talked about it,” McQuarrie said. “We always kind of talk about what we’re working on or what we’re talking about working on next. I think, again, I think if you show them a good story, I think if you showed him a really emotional story, I don’t think, you know, it’s, I can never predict. I can never predict what it is he’s going to be drawn to.”
Well, only time will tell if Warner Bros will get McQuarrie on board to direct Man of Steel 2 or Green Lantern as neither movie is even officially in the works yet. Notably, the Mission: Impossible – Fallout director has already declared that he would like to stay far away from directing a Star Wars film after he came across some Twitter posts trolling Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson.
