‘A month later?’: DCU fans mock The Flash movie’s early digital release in July & short theatrical run, here’s where to stream Ezra Miller’s DCU film

The exclusive theater window for The Flash movie will come to a close by the end of July and going by fans’ feedback, it doesn’t bode well for its home video release strategy. The Ezra Miller starrer speedster film with a Flashpoint-inspired plot is arriving on digital platforms barely a month after its premiere.

The Flash which was applauded as one of the best comic book movies from the genre by industry’s A-listers like Tom Cruise has now been reduced to one of the worst box office bombs from the DCU film franchise. CBM fans are already pitting it with the likes of Morbius for being an utter disappointment and arriving on Digital just a month after its release.

The Flash movie is expected to be available on streaming from July 18, as stated by the Twitter account The Flash Film News. While there is no date unveiled for its Blu-ray release – The Flash movie can be pre-ordered through Prime Video at $24.99 for the UHD edition. Though it is likely to be available on WBD’s Max too.

A few folks are also surprised WBD did not commit to the 45-day theatrical window for The Flash before releasing it digitally. While others reminded that James Gunn‘s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which was released on May 5th – drops on “digital just 11 days before this [The Flash] and was released in theaters over a month before it.” Similarly, Disney is yet to reveal The Little Mermaid’s streaming release date (as of this writing), a title that hit theaters 20 days prior to the DCU film.

The answer behind GOTG Vol. 3’s late release on streaming and the speedster flick’s early arrival lies in James Gunn’s recent response to a fan requesting for Guardians 3 on Disney+, “We’re still in top 5 in the box office, let us enjoy theaters.” Unfortunately, that has not been the case for Andy Muschietti‘s DCU film which had a devasting 73% decline at the second week in theaters.

It’s been a bumpy theatrical journey for The Flash since its preview screenings. The studio has struggled to contain major leaks which spoiled the film’s cameo surprises. Speaking of leaks, The entire movie was released on Twitter this week, receiving a whopping 1.7 million views before being taken down. It is possible the early streaming schedule for The Flash could have been decided due to these unforeseen circumstances.

The Flash movie is still running in theaters worldwide.
