Tobey Maguire‘s Venom Spider-Man is part of the canon event in Across the Spider-Verse. With the digital release of Spider-Verse 2, eagle-eyed Marvel fans are digging in for more easter eggs and were pleasantly surprised to spot the symbiote spidey suit from 2007’s Spider-Man 3.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is packed with easter eggs and no amount of rewatches in theaters were enough to unpack the slew of Marvel references. Speaking of, some fanatics were able to even spot an MCU nod to Quake a.k.a Daisy Johnson (let’s not forget The Prowler’s appearance too). Fortunately as of August 8, Spider-Verse 2 is available for VOD (Subscription video on demand) so folks have been grabbing their digital copies to break down some of the best moments like the Canon event sequence.
During the canon event scene where Miguel O’Hara explains to Miles about the Spider-Verse or as Miguel puts it, Archnohumanoid Polymultiverse – the web of nodes reveals the Venom Spider-Man canon as chapters part of every Spider’s story every time. It’s here when viewers can notice incidents from other timelines when Venom took over a Spider-Man.
Tobey Maguire’s Venom Spider-Man is among them and can be seen trying to peel off the symbiote’s skin. Marvel veteran stans would remember the shot from the 2007 film when Peter Parker goes on top of the Bell Tower and manages to rip off the skin thanks to the bell sound.

Interestingly, it’s not the only moment when Maguire’s Spider-Man appears. The live-action Peter Parker’s life-turning event from Uncle Ben’s death is also shown in the canon event scene.
Tobey Maguire’s Venom Spider-Man It’s far from the only missed easter egg or blink-and-you-miss moment. In fact, one of the VFX artists that worked Spider-Verse 2 revealed that Miles reverts to his Stan Lee Spider-Man suit for a brief moment when he is hit by the intern-dimensional glitch during the third act.
Others also spotted wholesome shots like when Spectacular Spider-Man was holding Spider-Cat during the train chase sequence. Meanwhile, Venom 3 was in production until the Actors Strike halted filming but what’s more interesting was an online rumor claiming Andrew Garfield‘s Amazing Spider-Man would return in the Tom Hardy starter Marvel flick but the report was not backed by any of the credible scoopers by far.
Speaking of Venom, some have also encouraged the idea of the Venom Hive-Mind, the metaphysical realm having the knowledge of Spider-Verse 2’s incidents. It would be an interesting inter-connected layer, especially if Sony Pictures plans on concluding Beyond the Spider-Verse by introducing the live-action adaptation of Miles Morales.

Across the Spider-Verse Bonus X-Ray edition e is available for $19.99 on Prime Video. It’s also purchasable on Apple TV, Youtube and other streaming platforms too. Audiences in India can grab it for ₹399 on Amazon. But readers expecting to catch it on Netflix under the traditional SVOD will have to wait longer due to Sony’s agreement with the streamer, the sequel might arrive on 30 September 2023.
