Even with hundreds of Spider-Men appearances – Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse trailer assures the sequel is all about Brooklyn’s one and only Spider-Man. Even so, Miles Morales will not only be facing a new enemy called The Spot. But the young superhero must also deal with real-life problems like his mother Rio Morales’ disappointment over Miles getting a B in Spanish. Here’s a brief round-up of fans’ social media reactions to the latest promo.

From addressing MCU’s multiverse event through No Way Home’s Spider-Man (Tom Holland) and Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to recreating the Spider-Man pointing meme – Across the Spider-Verse trailer is packed with easter eggs and interesting details for fans to dissect. Interestingly, the international trailer for Spider-Verse 2 featured all three live-action Spider-Man before kicking off with Miles Morales.

The 2 min 49-second trailer reveals (in a non-spoiler manner) why Miles Morales is targeted by an elite crew with the best Spider-people led by Miguel O’Hara. Speaking of, the scene delivers the first look at Spider-Punk with his own aesthetic color/design tone and Pavitr Prabhakar’s scene with Karan Soni‘s voiceover.

While Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld) introduces Miles to Miguel O’Hara (Oscar Isaac) – the grumpy grim-looking Spider-Man is not so excited to meet him nor include him as one of the multiverse-defending Spider-People. During this sequence, Spider-Man 2099 also mentions No Way Home incidents, “Don’t even get me started on Doctor Strange and the little nerd back on Earth-199999” – a direct nod to Tom Holland’s Spidey and the multiverse incident that unfolded in the movie.

Spider-Verse acknowledges no one in the multiverse knows Peter Parker’s identity

It seems like none of the Spider-people are aware of MCU’s Peter Parker identity, acknowledging the threequel’s plot twist. Some also pointed out the parallels between Andrew Garfield’s Spidey (Gwen’s fall to death) and Miles Morales having to save their loved one from their fall.

The trailer reveal also had Spider-Verse 2’s VFX artists sharing shots from the footage they had the privilege of contributing while working on the sequel. Readers can check reactions below.

Other exciting reveals from Across the Spider-Verse trailer include Scarlet Spider a.k.a Ben Reilly, introducing newcomers like Peter B. Parker’s (Jake Johnson) daughter Mayday Watson Parker, First Look at Spider-Byte. But the highlight of the trailer – it appears Miles’ father Jefferson Davis’ life is in danger.

Spider-Verse stans are also applauding Sony Pictures for subtly including Black Lives Matter reference through Miles’ backpack sticker and a nod to the LGBTQ community through a sticker in Gwen Stacy’s room that says, “Protect Trans Kids”.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse will sling into theaters on June 6.
