Downey first stint as the famous English detective was in 2009’s Sherlock Holmes, followed by 2011’s Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. The two films grossed over $1 billion combined, paving way for Sherlock Holmes 3.
The upcoming film from a script by Chris Brancato will see Downey’s return as Sherlock and Jude Law’s as his trusty best friend, Watson. While the film is still two years away from its Christmas Day 2020 release, Downey is teasing that his begin preparation to play his part again.
Director Guy Ritchie directed the first two entries in the franchise. Warner Bros. is yet to announce a director for the threequel. The production on Sherlock Holmes 3 is expected to kick off sometime later this year.
Notably, Downey has already wrapped work on The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle. He is likely going to be involved with Avengers 4’s reshoots that are expected to begin soon. There are rumors that Avengers 4 will be the final end for Robert Downey Jr.’s Marvel Cinematic Universe character, Iron Man.
The actor’s debut as Tony Stark in 2008’s Iron Man kickstarted the biggest movie franchise ever. It is rumored that Iron Man’s death will occur in the climax scene of Avengers 4 possibly alongside Captain America and maybe Thor.
Back in July, Iron Man comic writer Bob Layton told the Tampa Bay Times that he thinks Tony Stark will likely die in Avengers 4. He said that after Downey’s successful association with the franchise for 10 long years, it just might be time for the actor to move on.
“I am only speculating, but I will guess that (Robert Downey Jr.) is done,” Layton said. “He has been doing the same role for over 10 years now, and I think as with any actor sometimes, it is time to move on.”
Well, fans will have to wait until Avengers 4’s 2019 release to know about Iron’s Man fate.
