‘Amanda Waller is just that good’: DCU fans celebrate Viola Davis’ EGOT status with Grammy win, Jennifer Hudson praises, Woman King stans react mocking Oscar snub & more

The DCU officially has an EGOT status actor in their talent pool as Viola Davis took home a Grammy for reading her memoir Finding Me. DC Studios’ Waller series featuring The Suicide Squad star is currently her next anticipated project and fans are already expecting the best performance from the 57-year-old actress after her prestigious win.

From witnessing Ben Affleck‘s sad yet meme-worthy moment to watching Black Adam star Dwayne Johnson‘s wholesome interaction with Adele – The 65th Grammy Awards was an exhilarating ceremony yet it was Viola Davis’ win for Best Audio Book, Narration and Storytelling that made the event memorable. The Amanda Waller actor’s winning speech stood won a lot of applause, “I just EGOT,” says Davis in the video.

The official Twitter handle for DC also took part in appreciating Davis with a reference to the Task Force X head. “Amanda Waller is just that good.” Meanwhile, Jennifer Hudson, who is also an EGOT status holder, congratulated Viola Davis by calling her a “living LEGEND”. Viola Davis fans call out Oscar snub for The Woman King after EGOT status from Grammy award

The Woman King‘s Oscar snub was seen by many critics as a disrespectful disregard of the moving performances by the movie’s titular star Davis and others like Lashana Lynch. But the EGOT honor has arguably scrubbed away the disappointment held over the lack of an Oscar nod at the 95th Academy Awards.

Viola Davis has become the third black woman to achieve EGOT and is only the 18th actor to earn this status. Her EGOT journey has been long expected since her Oscar win for 2001’s Fences. Furthermore, bagging the Primetime Emmy for How to Get Away with Murder cemented her place in the hall of fame-Esque privilege as an EGOT holder.

Since James Gunn‘s address on DCU chapter 1, there’s been a general assumption that DC Studios titles would be produced as high-quality series on the likes of HBO’s Game of Thrones and not on the lines of The CW. In fact, the DCU head also teased the Wonder Woman spinoff, Paradise Lost as a GOT type drama. One can only hope for the Waller show to be treated as a similar high-production value project with an EGOT actor playing the lead.

Waller is currently in development from a story created by Watchmen‘s Crystal Henry and Doom Patrol‘s Jeremy Carver. The HBO DCU series is TBA with no details yet on castings a production start date. However, characters from the Peacemaker show are expected to appear.
