Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness fans cannot stop rambling over their love for Xochitl Gomez’s performance as America Chavez. The young newcomer’s addition to the MCU has received a lot of praise from viewers for being a stand-out, and many also hail Marvel Studios’ decision to put a Latino LGBTQ superhero in the front and center of Doctor Strange 2’s plot.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is out in theatres and the latest MCU sequel features Benedict Cumberbatch’s return as Stephen Strange after kicking off the multiverse in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, last seen in WandaVision, Benedict Wong as Wong and Rachel McAdams’ Christine Palmer.
Gomez comes in as a new powerhouse to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is one of the few new young superheroes joining Phase 4 along with Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel who will appear in her own Disney Plus series of the same name. After Gomez’s splendid debut – some fans are already hoping to see her in her own Doctor Strange spinoff show or return in another upcoming MCU feature. Some were also very fond of Strange and Chavez’s Father-daughter relationship. Readers can check out the reactions below.
A great one. Strange, Wanda and America are the main characters and get some good development and/or exploration. The story is solid and has a strong foundation. Action, magic and visuals are top tier. #AmericaChavez is the MVP of the film. #DoctorStrange #MultiverseOfMadness pic.twitter.com/883VuwZy2f

Benedict Wong’s #Wong, & Xochitl Gomez’s #AmericaChavez are standouts as well, with the latter being a wonderful new addition. But my favorite supporting cast member was Rachel McAdams. The secret MVP of the movie! They actually gave her a crucial role this time and she delivered pic.twitter.com/YavOV2veeB

#DoctorStrange thoughts: Film was great, very weird and Sam Rami excels in bringing a genuinely creepy movie in to the MCU. Strange and #Wanda both stand out in their preformances and #AmericaChavez is great. Issues for me were the pacing, that 2 hour runtime really hurt it.

Chavez’s fan following would also be pleased to know the character has earned her spot at the Avengers Campus at Disneyland. The character also wears an LGBTQ+ pin on the jacket which is a considerably big move by Disney in acknowledging the movement/community. LGBTQ Marvel fans also showered their support for Chavez’s moms, the lesbian parents portrayed in the movie, a plot point that led to the film being banned in Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
On the bright side, the character’s arrival shines the spotlight on Latino representation in Hollywood. Gomez also spoke on the same lines during her interview with Teen Vogue saying: “[America will] make people feel seen in a way that they never have before,” said the star.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is currently in theatres.
