The verdict is out for the She-Hulk series and critics are showering praises on Tatiana Maslany’s on-screen MCU debut as Jennifer Walters. But some critics are also critical of the upcoming Disney Plus show for prioritizing cameos, funny references, and spotlighting feminism while lacking good story-telling of superheroes. Still, the larger early reactions are applauding the visual effects, strong cast performance and more.
With She-Hulk: Attorney at Law red carpet done and dusted, the social media embargo is up and Marvel fans’ Twitter timelines are already stacking up with early none-spoiler reviews. Speaking of, the series, in general, seems rather enjoyable filled with hilarious elements and several critics stressing it’s too “silly” but remains wildly entertaining. The early reactors had screener access to the first four episodes of the nine.
Some highlighted She-Hulk emphasizes on breaking the fourth wall but goes lighter on the action. That may also explain reports of Daredevil’s (Charlie Cox) appearance in the series exploring a lighter side. However, a few like Grace Randolph called out the MCU TV show saying, “Creatively the show is SUPER sloppy & focuses more on feminism than superheroes.” Readers can check out reactions below.
#SheHulk is another hit for Marvel. The cast, especially Tatiana Maslany, is great and the show itself is very funny. While the show plays it safe and doesn't take big risks, I still had loads of fun with it. Can't wait to see the rest!@MarvelStudiosCA @SheHulkOfficial pic.twitter.com/34AJ9ERc1L

#SheHulk has hilarious, chaotic energy.
It's one of the most entertaining 4-episode starts I've ever watched, straight up hilarious often, and sometimes a little too silly for me. It's pure fun.
Jen Walters is awesome. Want more eps ASAP.

I’ve now seen the first four #SheHulk episodes three times, and they’re everything I want them to be, and so much more. The show is breezy, unabashedly weird, and wildly entertaining. This sets a new gold standard for what MCU shows are capable of. pic.twitter.com/4Z8jAe293L

#SheHulk…isn't great. Love Tatiana Maslany, really enjoy seeing Jen struggle w/celebrity, maintaining a personal life, & being respected as a woman in the work place. Great to see the MCU FINALLY embrace proper TV…sadly being a bad ABC sitcom isn't enough. pic.twitter.com/zpksx1v13r

After watching 4 eps. of #SheHulk the show is fantastic so far! Tatiana Maslany IS Jennifer Walters & is one of the most charismatic lovable characters in the MCU. The “cameo” characters are great & serve a role in the story. It’s hilarious when it’s self-aware. LOVE IT SO FAR!

She-Hulk is very fun, genuinely humorous and human. Really finds itself in 3rd ep. No major surprises or huge stakes but Maslany is immensely likable. The memes and thirst posts this show will inspire though…lmao 👀Credits tag in every episode. Effects look good. #SheHulk pic.twitter.com/ycKseOOLSa

The first four episodes of #SheHulk are a blast. It never takes itself too seriously, and gives us a witty and enjoyable introduction to Jennifer Walters. Despite many cameos (expected and unexpected), Tatiana Maslany IS the star and best part of this show. pic.twitter.com/NTkE4J2yFx

Marvel’s #SheHulk is a VERY funny legal procedural that’s lighter on action, but heavy on breaking the fourth wall. This is the most self-referential the MCU has ever been. Cameos & references galore + a dynamite Tatiana Maslany performance. Also, Tim Roth rules! pic.twitter.com/Sx3cDTVUa4

Fans will be pleased how Tatiana Maslany brings Jennifer Walters and #SheHulk to life #SheHulk is hilarious, smart, action-packed and utilizes the supporting characters to tell a great story while not overshadowing the titular character #SheHulk is the definition of FUN! pic.twitter.com/RezuZIrRBj

#SheHulk is simply stellar. It starts off fast, really fast, but as it went on it grew on me, and is easily one of my favorite MCU shows. The setting is pretty grounded but it does a great job at establishing itself in the MCU in a way that’s both respectful to the MCU, 1/2 pic.twitter.com/NCJPM1D5Le

I had the chance to watch the first 4 episodes of #SheHulkAttorneyAtLaw, here’s my reaction!
The performances are strong, natural and, without sounding hyperbolic, quite groundbreaking. It’s a show that understands exactly what it is, establishing itself firmly as

She-Hulk also goes big on MCU ties and cameo characters like Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness‘ Wong play an essential role in the plot. Fandango’s Erik Davis called it a “cameos & references galore” and lauded Tim Roth, the actor reprising Abomination from Incredible Hulk.
From the looks of it, She-Hulk falls under the same category as Ms. Marvel – the series may arguably struggle to find a large fanbase like Loki or WandaVision, partly for exploring a new style of storytelling that spotlights societal preconceptions. Though in the process, could fail to produce an engaging narrative that interests audiences on all fronts. Ms. Marvel currently holds the first spot as the highest-rated series on Rotten Tomatoes but held the lowest debut viewership in comparison to other MCU shows on Disney Plus.
She-Hulk will premiere on August 18 and release episodes weekly on Thursdays.
