The Ant-Man actor Paul Rudd is reportedly being considered to play the main lead in Paramount Pictures’ upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog film. Sonic was first introduced to the world back in 1991 by Sega. Sonic the Hedgehog’s various titles have sold more than 360 million copies worldwide. Paramount had acquired the rights for the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise last year in October after Sony abandoned the project.
According to That Hashtag Show, Rudd is in talks to play the role of Tom who is a cop who befriends Sonic and teams up with him and his friends’ Tails and Knuckles, to defeat, Robotnik/Doctor Eggman, who is generally the main antagonist in Sonic games and cartoons. The scientist uses his robotic creations to fight Sonic and his friends.
The majority of the plot of the Sonic the Hedgehog adaptation film is currently under wraps at this stage in production. The movie is expected to go on floors this summer in Vancouver, with a budget of $90 million.
What we do know is that the project has received a working title. Adding to that, it will reportedly roll the cameras in Vancouver later this July.
Debutant Director Jeff Fowler is directing the Sonic the Hedgehog movie from a screenplay by Patrick Casey and Josh Miller (Transylmania, 12 Deadly Days). The live-action/CGI hybrid film has Deadpool helmer Tim Miller on board as an executive producer. Miller is currently busy working on Terminator 6 with James Cameron.
Paul Rudd is currently busy promoting his upcoming film Ant-Man & The Wasp which hits theatres on July 6, 2018. The film will feature not one but two bug-sized superheroes Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Evangeline Lilly’s Hope Van Dyne/Wasp. In Ant-Man & The Wasp, Scott Lang will go on a mission to rescue Hank Pym’s long-lost wife from the mysterious dimension known as the Quantum Realm.
Sonic the Hedgehog is currently set to debut in theaters on November 15, 2019.
As filming on Sonic, the Hedgehog is expected to begin in July, we expect to hear more casting news soon.
