Matthew Perry has passed away from an apparent drowning at the age of 54. TMZ first reported the Friends actor’s unfortunate demise though multiple outlets have also confirmed the report. Fans shocked by the news and overwhelmed with sadness are coping with his death by reminiscing over Perry’s best moments from the famous sitcom series.
Who will take care of Joey now? That is the sentiment among many Matthew Perry fans who grew fond of his work in Hollywood projects from his career-defining performance in Friends. Matt was found unresponsive after drowning in his Jacuzzi at his L.A home.
Fans, colleagues and friends of the late actor were well aware of his mental health issues. Perry’s turmoil with drugs received more attention when the actor participated in the Friends reunion special.
Matt spoke in great detail about his struggling battle with alcohol addiction and prescription drugs which started after he faced a Jet Ski accident in 1997. Though it should be noted drugs were not found at the scene and TMZ sources indicate no foul play was involved as well.
The actor’s assistant notified first responders about Matt’s unresponsive state which appears to be from a cardiac arrest. While prominently known for the television series, Perry’s legacy spans over 46 projects which include TV Shows, films and even voicing in video games such as GTA V.
