‘Aquaman’: Jason Momoa, James Wan Thanks Fans As Film Crosses $1 Billion Mark

Aquaman fans have a major reason to celebrate as Warner Bros and DC Films latest comic book superhero film has surpassed $1 billion box office milestone. The film, which currently sits at $1.02 billion, has earned $287.862 million at the domestic box office and $732 million at the global box office, becoming the most successful DCEU movie to date.

It is the fifth 2018 released film to cross $1 billion following Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and Incredibles 2. Aquaman will take the crown as the highest-grossing DC movie once it breaches the $1.084 billion mark earned by 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises.

Overwhelmed by the film’s success, Aquaman director James Wan and actor Jason Momoa took it to their respective social media accounts to thank fans for their outpouring support. Momoa shared an emotional post on Instagram saying “mahalo” to everybody from fans to director James Wan and producer Zack Snyder who roped him to play the role of the aquatic DC Comics superhero.

BILLION DOLLAR UNDERDOG, from Baywatch to making what once was the most disrespected superhero into a billion dollar movie. No one gets to the top without the people that love them. My success is from my fans. All my aloha to everyone that had a hand in making this movie. Mahalo Zack for choosing me and mahalo James for creating this beautiful world,” Momoa’s Instagram post read.

Wan also posted a similar Thank you message on his Twitter account saying Mahalo to all the film’s supporters.

THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has supported this underdog. For making this non-mainstream character (and yes — with leading POC individuals in front and behind the camera!) connect on such a huge global scale. In the words of Aquaman himself, “MAHALO”,” Wan’s Twitter post read.

The success of Aquaman was very crucial for WB and DC Films as it was the first film that was released after the Justice League debacle. Now that the film has soared to success, the studio is already discussing plans for a sequel.
