Warner Bros. and DC Films upcoming superhero movie Aquaman is showing no signs of slowing down as far as ticket pre-sale is concerned. The film has set a new pre-sales record for Atom Tickets, topping some of 2018’s most successful films including Deadpool 2, Avengers: Infinity War, and Black Panther in the way.
“Clearly, ‘Aquaman’ has captured the attention of movie fans with its larger-than-life adventure that must be seen on the big screen,” said Atom Tickets co-founder and chairman Matthew Bakal, reported Variety.
Aquaman’s impressive pre-sales record can be attributed to Atom Ticket’s exclusive offer for Amazon Prime members, which will allow them to watch the film early on December 15. The film has reportedly opened to a great start in China grossing a whopping $94 million in its opening weekend, which is the highest total for any film in December at the Chinese box office.
The film has reportedly surpassed Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice, which made $96 million in its entire China run, in terms of box office revenue. It will open domestically next week and is eyeing a debut of around $65 million in its opening weekend. In India, it will release on December 14.
Aquaman tells the origin story of Arthur Curry who finds himself caught between a surface world that ravages the sea and the underwater Atlanteans who are ready to revolt. He will fight his half-brother King Orm for the Atlantean throne.
Directed by James Wan, the film stars Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, Amber Heard as Mera, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Patrick Wilson as Orm / Ocean Master, Willem Dafoe as Vulko, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Ludi Lin as Captain Murk, and Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry.
Aquaman will be released in theaters on December 21, 2018.
