Fans of Archie Comics will be thrilled to know that a few more shows based on the American comics publication will soon hit television. Besides, Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina there are three new Archie comics’ series planned.
Speaking to NY Times, publisher and Co-chief executive of Archie Comics Publications Jon Goldwater confirmed the exciting news about adding three new TV series to the television world of Archie Comics. According to Goldwater, plans are to launch two animated series and one live-action series for now.
More details reveal that one of the animated series will be focusing on the popular Archie character Josie McCoy of Josie and the Pussycats. Fans have met Riverdale version of Josie played by Ashleigh Murray. Just like Riverdale, this spinoff will have horror undertones to its storyline.
Lighter in tone, the second animated series will follow the misadventures of Archie and his friends in the mysterious town. For the live-action series, the creators will bring to life Archie character named Sam Hill, who is a private detective. The character appeared in seven comic issues before getting canceled in the 1950s.
Details on the three series are still not available. At the same time, the shows are expected to air either on a television network or other streaming services.
Meanwhile, Archie comics No. 700 will be released in November from a new team including the writer Nick Spencer and artist Marguerite Sauvage.
“If you keep the DNA of the characters intact, you can take them anywhere: TV, publishing, whatever the medium,” Goldwater said.
In the side note, Riverdale Season 3 is slated to be aired Oct. 10 on The CW. The show has officially begun filming its third season in Vancouver.
