Disney’s 20th Century Studios has dropped the final trailer for Avatar 2 which shows the forest-dwelling N’avi presumably led by Jake Sully (Sam Worthington), Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) with their children enter a new world on Pandora, the ocean reef’s Metkayina clan. But trouble still finds them as the human colonizers, RDA donning AMP suits with more advanced tech to aid their aquatic travel are shown destroying the culture and habitat of Metkayina.
After a decade since the world got to experience 2009’s Avatar, James Cameron’s Magnus opus franchise will grace the theaters this year but unlike the first film, the forest-dwellers will be exploring uncharted territory themselves, in the depths of the ocean. The sequel has much riding on its success, especially since the veteran director himself stated to GQ that Avatar: The Way of Water needs to “be the third or fourth highest-grossing film in history” to “break even” at the worldwide box office. Fortunately, the last trailer once again assures this sci-fi gem of a feature deserves to be experienced on the big screen.
Avatar 2’s final trailer shows Jake requesting the leader of the Metkayina clan, Tonowari (Cliff Curtis) and Ronal (Kate Winslet) for a haven to keep his people safe. “Treat them as our brothers and sisters,” says Tonowari. The footage shows Jake’s kids, Neteyam (Jamie Flatters), Lo’ak (Britain Dalton) and Tuktirey (Trinity Bliss) learning the ways of water, and making neural connections with the water creature Skimwings to travel under the ocean.
The journey of learning new ways puts Neytiri’s son Lo’ak in the same odds as Jake once faced with N’avi in Avatar. Fortunately, Lo’ak seems to find his other half to help him in Avatar: The Way of Water. The trailer shows Tsireya (Bailey Bass) of the Metkayina showing a romantic interest in Lo’ak.
