Avengers: Infinity War concept arts are all over the internet, courtesy Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War — The Art of the Movie book. Now, a new concept art has surfaced online that shows Thor (Chris Hemsworth) in his ‘Ultimate Thor’ comic book avatar.
Marvel Studios Head of Visual Development, Ryan Meinerding, has posted an unused concept art on Instagram that shows the God Thunder resembling his ‘Ultimate Thor’ comic book counterpart as depicted in Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch’s The Ultimates. It shows Thor in a sleeveless black outfit, holding a chunkier version of Stormbreaker in his hand. The breastplate glows with electricity as the God of Thunder unleashes his full powers.
The caption accompanying the concept art reveals that it was created before the filmmakers finalized to show Thor sporting short hair in Infinity War.
“This was an early design pitch I proposed before we knew Thor’s hair would be short at the beginning of Infinity War,” Meinerding shared on Instagram.
He went on to reveal that the comic design was created by concept artist Bryan Hitch.
“It’s always a blast to translate something as directly as possible from the comics! The awesome comic design is by the insanely talented Bryan Hitch,” the caption added.
Meinerding has also shared some early Stormbreaker designs which he created before handing over the rough model to Adam Wross to turn into a polished and beautiful final model.
Another Thor concept art suggests Infinity War makers initially envisioned Stormbreaker being found and not constructed as shown in the theatrical cut. It shows Thor, Rocket, and Groot finding Stormbreaker buried underground in the remains of what looks like the corpse of a giant creature underground.

Hemsworth will next reprise his role of the God of Thunder in Avengers 4, which releases in theatres on May 3, 2019.
