Avengers: Infinity War Writers Had Originally Scripted Thanos’ Snap for Avengers 4

The massively successful Marvel Studios’ film Avengers: Infinity War is almost one-month old now, but the discussions about the film and its various characters be it the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy or Mad Titan Thanos are far from over. Thanks to the film’s cliffhanger climax, fans are pretty much worried about their favorite superheroes who got crumbled to dust after Thanos snapped his fingers.

Thanos is of the view that the universe has finite resources and that uncontrolled population growth will bring an end to all life. So, his solution to the problem was to wipe out half the life in the universe using the Infinity Gauntlet, which he managed to do at the end of Infinity War.

Avengers: Infinity War writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have recently revealed in an interview with the New York Times, that an earlier draft of the script had Thanos’ do the iconic snap with the Infinity Gauntlet reserved for Avengers 4, and not for Avengers: Infinity War.

It wasn’t just, well, we’ve got too much story, we’d better chop it in half,” Markus revealed. “But what we realized is, it would feel more like a cliffhanger than we intended.”

So, as per the initial draft, the film would have ended with Thanos acquiring the last Infinity Stone, leaving audiences to speculate what will happen next. But then, as the screenwriters wanted the two films to be separate entities, they decided to showcase the snap as the tragic end of Infinity War.

According to Markus, if the snap had actually occurred in the second film, it would seem to be “a continuation of exactly what you were watching before.”

So, Markus and McFeely took the creative decision to allow Avengers 4 to be “be as big as it wants to be, and as sprawling.”

Mr. McFeely said that as Infinity War ends with the Snap, “it’s really, I think, difficult to predict where we go next” in Avengers 4. It would be really interesting to watch Thanos crossing paths with Earth’s surviving heroes. Recently, the fourth installment’s first synopsis was also unveiled.
