Batgirl has begun filming and its only fare DCEU fans are graced with an official still from the set. Thankfully, co-director Adil El Arbi offered a little more than the fandom bargained by revealing the first look at the purple-themed Bat logo.
The new image features a clapperboard showcasing the Batgirl logo on a desk where a nameplate also states, “Officer Barbara Gordon.” Batgirl’s secret identity is Barbara Gordon and the character will be played by Leslie Grace.
The mention of “Officer” beside Barbara’s name has fans already excited at the possibility of seeing her persona among Gotham’s force as well as alongside Commissioner Gordon (played by J.K. Simmons). J.K. Simmons last appeared in the role in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. It will be interesting to see how the two character’s relationship could influence the larger DC Extended Universe.

Batgirl movie will be the first DCEU property specifically created to debut on HBO Max. It was earlier reported that Warner Bros. is using HBO Max as a testing ground for establishing DC characters below the A-listers such as The Batman etc.
Eagle-eyed DC fans are already taking apart the new still for Easter egg-type elements to uncover more details on the film. Readers can check out some reactions below.

We still do not know if this will be the final logo of the film, but at the moment it is very similar to the one from its New 52 time. #Batgirl pic.twitter.com/i83XjxvS2q

Bilall Fallah and Arbi are helming the Batgirl project from a script penned by Christina Hodson, previously screenwriter on DCEU’s 2020 film Birds of Prey. Furthermore, Hodson is also the writer for The Flash film directed by Andy Muschietti. Brendan Fraser will play the villain firefly in the upcoming show and it will be his second outing with DC Comics-based character. The star also plays asRobotman.
Rumors also suggest Jurnee Smollett will return as Black Canary in Batgirl movie though there’s no confirmation yet. Batgirl does not have an official release date yet but the series will debut on HBO Max, possibly sometime in 2022. Meanwhile, fans can explore a different Gotham setting and universe in Matt Reeves’ The Batman featuring Robert Pattinson in the titular role slated to release on March 4, 2022.
