Batman Prequel ‘Pennyworth’ Series Reportedly Starts Filming In November

It looks like Epix is finally ready to start rolling the cameras for Batman prequel TV series titled Pennyworth. And going by its nearing filming start date, fans can look forward to casting announcements in the following months.

A new report coming from Production Weekly’s recent listing has revealed that Pennyworth will go into production on November 21 in London. Filming will go on for a period of 7 months and is expected to wrap in June.

It was earlier hinted by Omega Underground that the first episode from the series was expected to begin filming sometime this fall or winter.

The series has been in development since 2016 and earlier this May, it received an order of 10-episode straight-to-series. The filming location wouldn’t come as a surprise to many since the series itself takes place in London set in the 1960s.

The series will center upon a young Alfred Pennyworth in London where he serves as a former British SAS soldier. He goes on to form a secret company and works with Bruce Wayne’s father, Thomas Wayne. Fans must note that this is not a Gotham spinoff but its rather an entirely different story which explores Alfred’s origin.

Gotham showrunner Bruno Heller will produce Pennyworth with Danny Cannon server as co-executive producer.

As genuine fans of these classic DC characters, as well as the incredibly talented Bruno Heller and Danny Cannon, we couldn’t be more excited to make Epix the home of this series,” Epix president Michael Wright said. “We can’t wait to work with Bruno and Danny — along with Peter Roth, Susan Rovner, Brett Paul and the team at Warner Horizon — on this fantastic origin story.”

Michael and his colleagues have created the perfect venue for original storytelling, and all of us working on Pennyworth are thrilled to be on the Epix slate,” Heller and Cannon said in a joint statement.

Fox’s Gotham is expected to air its fifth and final season in early 2019. From the looks of it, as Gotham series concludes, Epix could be ready to air Pennyworth, giving the new television series an opportunity to grab the spotlight.

Pennyworth does not have a release date assigned yet.
