Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Cinematographer Larry Fong recently opened up about his future in the DC Films. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like he’ll be making a return.
Fong is an avid user of social media and frequently answers fans questions on Twitter. Recently when a fan asked if Fong will return to work on any another DC Comics adaptation or other superhero film post The Predator, his answer seemed to suggest that he is almost done with DC Films.
“After everything is done with Predator, will you be possibly working on another DC film property in the future? Or had talks on a new Superhero IP?” the fan asked to which Fong replied, “Ya never know. Seems unlikely for obvious reasons.”
Notably, Fong has worked with Batman v Superman director Zack Snyder on a couple of films including 300, Watchmen, Sucker Punch and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice that pit Superman (Henry Cavill) against Batman (Ben Affleck).
Snyder stepped down from the director’s chair for Justice League due to a personal tragedy. The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron writer-director Joss Whedon was roped in by the studio to helm the film that resulted in a lot of reshoots. Unfortunately, Justice League received poor reviews from the critics as well as from the audiences. The film didn’t well at the box office. In fact, it ended up raking in the lowest box office collection received by any DC Extended Universe film ever.
Fong handed over the cinematography duties he had over Justice League to Fabian Wagner due to schedule conflicts with blockbuster monster movie Kong: Skull Island. Fong shares a good working relationship with Zack, so, it might not come as a surprise if the two of them have decided to part ways with DC Films.
Well, only time will tell if Fong will ever return for another DC movie in the future. The cinematographer’s next project, The Predator, is set to premiere in theatres on September 14.
