Batman voice actor Kevin Conroy’s demise attracts tribute from DCU fans, Mark Hamill to DC Studios’ CEO James Gunn & more, bat-signal lights up on the Empire state building

Batman voice actor Kevin Conroy’s demise attracts tribute from DCU fans, Mark Hamill to DC Studios’ CEO James Gunn & more, bat-signal lights up on the Empire state building

Kevin Conroy, the iconic voice actor who breathed life into Bruce Wayne a.k.a Batman in the famous animated series has passed away at 66. The heartwrenching news came from the BTAS cast members like Tara Strong (voices Batgirl etc) and was later confirmed by Warner Bros. Discovery’s official statement honoring his legacy. 

From stars like Mark Hamill to the BTAS producer Paul Dini and even DCU’s chief James Gunn,  high-profile artists from showbiz have shared their tribute to Kevin Conroy. The veteran voice actor personified the Dark Knight for over three decades ranging from animation, TV and gaming. Conroy died after battling cancer and was married to his husband Vaughn C. Williams

While Kevin Conroy was mostly known for voicing the bat, he also lent his voice to several other well-known properties, like Mer-Man’s voice for Netflix’s Masters of the Universe: Revelation. Conroy also made a live-action appearance in The CW’s Crisis on Infinite Earths arc through Batwoman. The scene even offered Kevin Conroy an opportunity to make a Batman v Superman reference as well.  

Kevin’s portrayal of the caped crusader struck a chord among DC fans in The Batman Adventures, Justice League animated show and Batman Beyond, all three series were acclaimed by the fandom. In honor of his passing, the Empire State Building also shined the bat signal. Meanwhile, on social media, Cartoon Network, DC Comics and several other platforms praised his contribution to the world. Many fans were heartbroken over the shocking revelation that Kevin Conroy was diagnosed with cancer. Moreover, the actor still continued to send video messages to fans through Cameo and was active on Twitter on Halloween. 

Conroy’s last voiceover was as Thomas Wayne for the Batman: Caped Crusader series, which is still in the works. While it’s unclear when the project might come to light, his voice from past works will surely immortalize him in the DC Universe.
