If latest rumors are to be believed actor Ben Affleck is pretty much interested in making a return as the Caped Crusader in DC’s standalone The Batman movie. Affleck has appeared as the Dark Knight in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, and Justice League.
The news of the actor’s departure from the DCEU started making rounds after he was heavily criticized for his role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Justice League’s failure almost confirmed his departure from the franchise.
But, Affleck was given another chance as he was roped in to direct and star in the Batman solo film. It was however after he stepped down from the director’s chair that the project went into the hands of Matt Reeves.
A Twitter user who goes by the name Daniel RPK posted a message on the social media platform suggesting that Affleck might still want to play the Batman once again.
“Still hearing he wants to stay in the role,” the Twitter post read.
Although Affleck’s return is yet to be confirmed, the mere rumor is enough to excite fans who want to see more of the actor as Batman. Information about the standalone Batman movie is pretty scarce at the moment. However, a lot of rumors have been making rounds since last few months.
There were even reports that claimed that director Matt Reeves had been in search of a new actor to play Batman in his upcoming film. Names like Jake Gyllenhaal, Jon Hamm or Armie Hammer were linked to the role. Gyllenhaal, who topped Reeve’s list of probable actors to portray the Batman, has already refuted the reports of him replacing Ben Affleck in The Batman & there are rumors stating that Gyllenhaal might be up to playing as villain Mysterio for MCU-sony.
A recent rumor suggests the standalone Batman film might see the Caped Crusader battle with the iconic comic book villain, The Penguin / Oswald Cobblepot. The information has not yet been confirmed by the filmmakers.
The Batman is rumored to go on floors sometime next year.
