Ben Mendelsohn Commends Casting Brie Larson For Captain Marvel Role

The production and filming work on Marvel Studios’ female superhero film Captain Marvel is currently going on in Los Angeles, California. While Academy Award winner Brie Larson will be seen portraying the titular character of Carol Danvers a.k.a. Captain Marvel, Ben Mendelsohn’s role in the film still remains a big mystery. It is widely speculated that he will be playing the main antagonist in the film.

During a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, while promoting Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One, Ben Mendelsohn praised the casting of Larson in Captain Marvel. While the actor did not disclose anything about his role in the upcoming Marvel film, he did mention that Brie is the perfect choice for the female superhero role.

Brie is absolutely perfect for that role,” Mendelsohn said. “Why? Because she’s a strong, yet sensitive, contemporary female. She is a champion, she’s a fantastic actress, and she’s a great human. So you can’t ask for better for Captain Marvel.”

Recently, Larson took to Instagram to show off her intense workout as she trains for her role as Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel.

“9 months of training really does some stuff to your body,” she captioned one of the videos, adding in another that “Getting stronger is a process I’m committed to showing up for every day.”

The 28-year-old actress is portraying the character of an Air Force pilot who gains superpowers after an accident leads to her DNA mixing with that of a Kree alien. She shared a picture of herself at Nevada’s Nellis Air Force Base alongside a brigadier general perched on a cockpit wearing full flight suits. You can check out the picture and video below.

Directed by Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck, Captain Marvel will be set in the 1990s. The film also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Lashana Lynch, Djimon Hounsou, Gemma Chan, Lee Pace, Algenis Perez Soto, Clark Gregg, Jude Law, Rune Temte, and McKenna Grace. It will premiere in theatres on March 8, 2019.
