The critics have spoken and Oz Perkins‘ Longlegs could be the disturbing horror thriller that audiences have been waiting for, which could finally dethrone Silence of the Lamb. Starring Nicolas Cage as an eerie serial killer, the story centers around religious mythological themes. The FBI is on a manhunt with agent Lee Harker potrayed by Maika Monroe assigned to uncover the mystery behind a sequence of unresolved murders.
NEON Films’ upcoming horror entry has been heaped with praises by critics & film pundits since its latest round of preview screenings. Aside from the certified fresh RT score, film reviewers are calling it the scariest entry in the horror genre they have “seen in a long time” as Frederick Nuti wrote on X.
The most notable praise on social media is comparison to Jonathan Demme‘s acclaimed serial killer cult classic starring Anthony Hopkins‘ Hannibal Lecter. Rest assured, this crime-centric horror appears to deliver a terrifying experience while offering aesthetically pleasing SEVEN-esque visuals as well.
#Longlegs fucked me up, Nicolas Cage, you fucking mad man and I was Perkins. You’re a genius. This is one of the best serial killer movies of all time a little bit better than silence of the lambs. Maika Monroe is a scream queen. This is one of the best movies of 2024 can’t wait… pic.twitter.com/qlGr2Hbr1A

#Longlegs is the scariest movie I’ve seen in a long time. Cage and Monroe give an Oscar worthy performance. Oz Perkins is brilliant and showcases true horror in every scene! A third act that will leave you speechless. I’m legit shaking and can barely walk out of the theater!😮💨 😈 pic.twitter.com/otw9gSaqkI

I was sitting in Longlegs trying to think of more terrifying movie characters than Nicolas Cage’s performance, and there aren’t very many. The movie carries a tension and unease all the way through that never lets up. This is a horror classic in the making. #Longlegs pic.twitter.com/NswRvc2ggJ

I’ve been wanting to see a film like LONGLEGS for far too long.
(no plot spoilers)
This film is CREEPY. You will be uncomfortable. You will not be able to control your emotions. You’ll laugh at weird times. It’s a fucking trip.
I found it aesthetically perfect. While it’s… pic.twitter.com/z8tPK32HWE

#LongLegs is what happens when Silence of the Lamb & Seven have a baby. The mood, the score, & the scares will haunt you long after the movie is over. It’s an F’ed up ending. Perkins has made a classic! Monroe is stellar & Cage is at 11! Happy Birthday! @neonrated @LonglegsFilm pic.twitter.com/J56E3gIgjX

Cage’s eerie serial killer look has been the talk of the town alongside Monroe’s scream queen performance. The studio also released a promo revealing that Monroe’s heart rate hit 170 bpm witnessing the antagonist’s first look. Meanwhile, NEON is leaving no stone unturned for Longlegs marketing. Unsettling Promo stills of what looks like a crime scene has only amplified horror fans’ expectations.
Since stepping aside from headlining blockbuster titles, Cage has been candid about his desire to act in independent movies. Nonetheless, the famed Con Air star’s applaudable performance in Longlegs might earn this horror thriller blockbuster-worthy box office earnings going by critics’ reactions below.
It should also be noted Cage has not entirely bid farewell to big-budget flicks. Nic has also been dipping his toe in the superhero genre by making a cameo in The Flash as a multiverse version of Superman. He also voices Spider-Man Noir in Sony’s Spider-Verse films.
the marketing for longlegs is seriously incredible and deeply unsettling. like what do you mean these photos are for a movie and not actual crime scene photos??? 😰 pic.twitter.com/u0unNonr8G
