Bill and Ted 3 featuring the titular duo Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter might finally get a Christmas 2019 release, at least according to the long-awaited threequel’s executive producer, Steven Soderbergh. The film has been in the works for years. The last update that fans received came from Pursue News when we reported the project’s filming locations.
During a Q&A session at the Slamdance film festival, while promoting his new movie High Flying Bird, Soderbergh revealed that Bill and Ted Face the Music could be released by Christmas 2019.
“That’d be a good Christmas present,” Soderbergh told CNET when asked about a release date.
He also teased that the script for Bill & Ted Face the Music is hilarious that it was a love gig for all involved, before joking that no one was getting paid.
The Bill and Ted franchise began with 1989’s Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and continued in 1991’s Bill &Ted’s Bogus Journey. The production work on Bill and Ted 3 was supposed to begin in January, but there’s still no information as far as cameras rolling.
“We couldn’t be more excited to get the whole band back together again,” Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter said in a joint statement last year. “Chris and Ed wrote an amazing script, and with Dean at the helm, we’ve got a dream team!”
The film’s story will pick up years after the original series with Bill S. Preston and Ted ‘Theodore’ Logan showcased as middle-aged men with families. No other cast members have been confirmed at this time. The film is being helmed by Galaxy Quest’s Dean Parisot with a script from original Bill & Ted writers Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon.
There’s no official announcement as to when Bill and Ted 3 production will likely begin. but it was earlier stated that it would begin early this year.
Stay tuned to Pursue News for more updates on the film.
