Birds Of Prey Casts Oscar Nominee Rosie Perez As Renee Montoya

Fearless fame actress Rosie Perez has been roped in to play detective Renee Montoya in Warner Bros. and DC Film’s much-awaited women-centered movie, Birds Of Prey, according to The Wrap.

Perez made her acting debut in Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing and has also appeared in The Road to El Dorado, and White Men Can’t Jump. She received her Oscar nomination for her role in Fearless in 1993 and multiple Emmy nominations for her work on In Living Color. Her recent credits include NBC’s Rise, and the U.K. series Bounty Hunters. She will next be seen alongside Anne Hathaway in a political thriller, The Last Thing He Wanted, which is set to debut on Netflix in 2019.

According to the comic book storyline, Montoya is an openly gay detective who works in the Gotham City Police Department and eventually adopts the masked identity of The Question. The filmmakers have already finalized Mary Elizabeth Winstead for the role of Huntress, and Jurnee Smollett-Bell for the role of Black Canary.

Renee Montoya, Huntress, and Black Canary will join forces with Harley Quinn, played by Margot Robbie, to save the life of a little girl named Cassandra Cain from the evil crime lord, Black Mask, one of Batman’s foes who has never before appeared on the big screen. The casting for the role of Cassandra Cain and Black Mask is yet to be done. However, rumors are that the makers are eyeing Ewan McGregor or Sharlto Copley to play the antagonist in Birds Of Prey.

Cathy Yan will direct Birds of Prey, from a script by Bumblebee’s Christina Hodson, who is also writing the Batgirl movie. Birds Of Prey will begin filming on January 14 in Los Angeles. The project’s working title has been revealed to be ‘Fox Force Five’.

Birds of Prey is currently set to release in theaters on February 7, 2020.
