Birds Of Prey – Harley Quinn & Gang Will Be In Gotham But City Won’t Be Protected By Batman

Now that Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment has finally set a released date for the highly anticipated Birds of Prey movie, a lot of information about the film’s cast, plot and storyline have started pouring in.

According to a report coming from Deadline, the film studio has finalized Fargo and 10 Cloverfield Lane actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead for the role of Huntress and Underground actress Jurnee Smollett-Bell for the role of Black Canary. The two joins Margot Robbie who will reprise her Suicide Squad role of Harley Quinn. As per the report, the Birds of Prey movie will be set in Gotham but sans The Batman.

They join Margot Robbie who reprises her Suicide Squad role of Harley Quinn in a Gotham that isn’t protected by Batman,” the Deadline report read.

There could be a lot of reasons behind Batman’s absence from the film. One of the possibilities could be that Birds of Prey will be before the events of Suicide Squad, in the timeline where Bruce Wayne had stopped being Batman.

Well, what we currently know about the Birds of Prey movie is that it will see Harley Quinn come together with three other female superheroes namely Black Canary, Huntress, and Renee Montoya to save the life of a little girl (Cassandra Cain) from the evil crime lord, Black Mask.

Notably, the film studio is still looking to cast Renee Montoya and Cassandra Cain, as well as the film’s villain. Rumors are that Ewan McGregor or Sharlto Copley is being considered for the role of the villain in Birds of Prey.

Variety reporter Justin Kroll has confirmed on Twitter that Iron Man 2 star Sam Rockwell has passed on playing the villain Black Mask and that McGregor and Copley are currently being considered for the role.

Cathy Yan is directing Birds of Prey from a script by Christina Hodson. Margot Robbie is co-producing the film along with Sue Kroll and Bryan Unkeless. The film is scheduled to release on Feb. 7, 2020.
