Margot Robbie’s portrayal of Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad got her a lot of appreciation from critics as well as fans. Now that Birds of Prey movie is finally taking shape, Robbie has expressed her desire to explore Harley Quinn’s relationship with Poison Ivy in a future DCEU movie.
Notably, Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy have been teaming-up since Batman: The Animated Series. In fact, the 70th issue of Injustice 2, which was released in August this year, declared the two as a married couple.
During a recent interview with Pride Source, Margot was asked if she was aware of Harley’s sexuality and relationship with Poison Ivy to which she said a yes.
“If you read the comics you know that Poison Ivy and Harley have an intimate relationship. In some comics they convey it as a friendship; in other comics you can see that they’re actually sexually involved as a couple,” the Suicide Squad actress said. “I’ve been trying to – I would love to have Poison Ivy thrown into the universe, because the Harley and Poison Ivy relationship is one of my favorite aspects of the comics, so I’m looking to explore that on screen.”
When asked whom she would consider playing Poison Ivy on the big screen, Margot said she doesn’t have anyone specifically in mind for the part right now.
“You know what? I’ve thought about it a lot and there’s no one person who springs to mind. I’m pretty open-minded,” the actress added.
Margot will next be seen in the Birds of Prey movie which will see Harley Quinn joining hands with Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), and Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) to protect Cassandra Cain (Ella Jay Basco) when she comes into the possession of a diamond belonging to a criminal kingpin known as Black Mask (Ewan McGregor).
With Cathy Yan on board as the director, the production work on Birds of Prey will reportedly begin early next year. The film is set to debut in theaters on Feb. 7, 2020.
