The ever-expanding MCU will introduce a new powerhouse in Black Panther 2 through Tenoch Huerta’s Namor and not only is the menacing Marvel anti-hero as strong as Thor but the Talocan ruler is also comparably wise as the God of Thunder thanks to his biological aging ability.
While Black Panther 2 explores the aftermath of Wakanda post T’Challa’s demise, the sequel will also introduce a new underwater world, the Talocan kingdom with deep routes to Aztec culture. Fans are yet to learn more about the realm and its relation with the outside world but from the looks of it, Namor might be aware of the past incidents on Earth dating back to early as the time when The Eternals arrived on the planet.
The Black Panther 2 cast and director Ryan Coogler are currently on the press tour for the movie’s release this week. During the Q&A, Huerta discussed Namor’s intentions and surprisingly dropped info regarding the character’s biological age which makes him older than Captain America and most of the Avengers.
Huerta began by speaking about the qualities that make Namor a “simple man” stating that he is just trying to protect his family, Kingdom and cultural heritage. He further added that KulKulkan’s concerns are easily relatable to people in real life, suggesting it’s one of the factors behind the character’s growing fondness from fans, The MCU newcomer eventually said Namor is “500 years old” and teases his “decisions” which impact the world. Namor is far from being the oldest character to ever be introduced in Marvel Cinematic Universe. In fact, Thor’s biological lifespan was dated at 1,500 years old in Avengers: Infinity War.
However, Namor’s age makes him one of the few Earth dwellers that could possibly be aware of the planet’s past devastations starting from the Red Skull’s agenda during World War II to the Snap in Avengers: Endgame. It can be argued Namor’s war on Wakanda could be influenced due to his experience of the outside world.
The Black Panther: Wakanda Forever helmer also discussed Namor’s strength. In an interview with Marvel, Coogler unveiled that “He’s [Namor] incredibly strong, he’s as strong as Thor, and if he’s around enough water he can be as strong as the Hulk.”
It’s clear Namor will be a force to be reckoned with in MCU Phase 5 and beyond. With the Fantastic Four’s debut right around the corner, it will be interesting to see the Sub-Mariner clash as well as work with some of MCU’s finest heroes.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever arrives in theaters on November 11.
