Actor Wesley Snipes, who portrays the Marvel Comics character Blade, is overwhelmed by Black Panther’s release. Black Panther is undoubtedly one of the most awaited movies of 2018. In a recent interview with Slate, Snipes revealed that he is very excited about the release of the first black superhero film. He said he is quite confident that the film will have an immediate and long-lasting impact on the filmmaking industry.
“Excited is definitely not the word,” Snipes told the publication. “Overcome, overjoyed, clutch the pearls, I am ecstatic about it. I know what it’s going to do, the impact it’s going to have, not only on the minds of the community but on the industry and the minds of those who are now the new gatekeepers. When they see the money, that’s a wrap. It’s a wrap. It’s inevitable that it opens up new opportunities, it’s like dropping a load of seed in the mud. It’s going to grow. It’s going to grow.”
Snipes went on to reveal that back in the early 1990’s Columbia Pictures also attempted to make their own adaptation of Black Panther with Snipes in the lead role. But, for some reasons, the project got shelved. Considering the advancements in technology today than compared to the 1990’s, the 55-year-old Blade actor acknowledged the fact that Black Panther will be more effective and have a larger impact in 2018 than it would have had two decades ago.
“It’s the right thing, at the right time, and the right occasion. For that, that’s the divine will of the highest, and I am always, always submissive to that. Let it be. I feel no sense of loss whatsoever, none,” Snipes said. “I’m happy, ’cause I know what’s going to happen after this. I know where it’s going. Remember, I was 20 years ahead of the game then, I’m already 20 years ahead of the game now. It ain’t got worse, it got better. I know where this is going.”
Directed by Ryan Coogler, Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, and Martin Freeman in the lead roles. The film is estimated to earn around $165 million in the four-day Presidents Day weekend. Adding to Black Panther’s credit, the film currently boasts a whopping 97 percent score on review aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes which is the highest ever for any Marvel or DC movie. The film is also the most tweeted about movie of 2018.
Black Panther opens in theatres this Friday.
