Bloodshot was created by Kevin Van Hook, Don Perlin and Bob Layton for Valiant Comics back in 1992. The character made his debut in Eternal Warrior #4. The comic book ran for 110 issues with more than 7.5 million copies sold.

As per the comic book storyline, Bloodshot is a mortally-wounded soldier who gets regeneration and meta-morphing abilities after having microscopic nanites injected into his blood. Despite having his memory wiped numerous times, the titular character heads on to a quest to discover his real identity, find out who did this to him, and make them pay for it.

Valiant Entertainment has partnered with Sony to produce and release five movies starting with Harbinger and Bloodshot that would culminate in a Harbinger Wars crossover. The film studio is reportedly aiming for an R-rating for the comic adaptation following the footsteps of the recent success of Logan and Deadpool. The film will likely take inspiration from classic sci-fi/action blockbusters like RoboCop, The Terminator, and Total Recall.

Directed by Dave Wilson and written by Eric Heisserer, the live-action comic book movie also stars Johannes Hakur Johannesson, Toby Kebbell, Martin Sheen, Eiza Gonzalez, Sam Heughan, Talulah Riley, and Alex Hernandez. Kebbell is rumored to portray the main villain in the film named Axe. The film will also reunite Diesel with Fast and the Furious franchise mega-producer Neal Moritz.

Bloodshot is scheduled to hit theaters on February 21, 2020.
