Daniel Craig’s last James Bond franchise movie titled Bond 25 has finally found a director in Cary Joji Fukunaga. Fukunaga is best known for helming HBO’s True Detective. He most recently directed the new Netflix series Maniac which features Emma Stone and Jonah Hill in the lead roles. Maniac is set to debut on Netflix this weekend.
James Bond franchise producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli announced the latest development in a statement released on Thursday.
“We are delighted to be working with Cary. His versatility and innovation make him an excellent choice for our next James Bond adventure,” the joint statement read.
Fukunaga will be replacing the departed Danny Boyle who abruptly quit the project in August due to creative differences related to the script penned by his longtime collaborator John Hodge. Bond 25 is scheduled to begin principal photography in March 2019 at Pinewood Studios in London, three months later than originally scheduled. The movie will see Daniel Craig reprising his role of MI6 agent James Bond for the fifth time.
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight in Canada, Fukunaga revealed his excitement on getting an opportunity to work with Craig on the new James Bond movie, reported ComicBook.com.
“The guy is a genius actor and a legend,” Fukunaga said. “So I’m just super honored and excited.”
As Bond 25 is going to be Craig’s final outing as the MI6 agent, a lot of rumors of possible actors who might replace him for the role have already started making rounds. A report coming from gossip site Crazy Days and Nights claims that the studio is eyeing to cast former Superman actor Henry Cavill in the iconic role. This is still just a rumor at this point, so, readers are advised to take it with a pinch of salt.
It still remains unknown if the actor chosen to play the villain in Bond 25 by the previous director Danny Boyle will still be a part of the project.
Bond 25 was previously set for release in November 2019, but, now, the film’s release has been pushed to February 14, 2020.
