After months of waiting, fans finally got their first look at Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel in an exclusive set of pictures released by Marvel Studios via Entertainment Weekly.
The pictures show Larson wearing the iconic Captain Marvel costume, Samuel L. Jackson’s de-aged Nick Fury, Jude Law’s Mar-Vell in the role of commander of Starforce, Lashana Lynch’s Maria Rambeau and an army of nasty, scaly-chinned Skrull warriors storming a beach. Skrulls will be lead by Ben Mendelsohn’s villainous Talos. The Marvel female superhero is also gracing the cover page of EW’s latest issue.

Captain Marvel is notably the first female-led movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It introduces the most powerful hero the MCU has ever had. Larson is playing Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot whose DNA gets fused with that of the alien species leading to her becoming a superhero.
During an interview with EW, the actress offered some in-depth explanation of her character in the film. She explained how Carol and Captain Marvel are two completely distinct personalities.
“You have this Kree part of her that’s unemotional, that is an amazing fighter and competitive,” Larson said. “Then there’s this human part of her that is flawed but is also the thing that she ends up leading by. It’s the thing that gets her in trouble, but it’s also the thing that makes her great. And those two sides warring against each other is what makes her her.”
The Oscar-winning actress revealed what excited her most about the film. She said Captain Marvel has every element in full be it funny, emotional or action.
“That is something that is really exciting to me about this film: We did not cut corners on that stuff,” Larson said. “Like, when it’s funny, it is funny, but also when there’s deep emotional things happening, it’s real. So I was able to bring some of those same things that I’ve brought to full dramatic roles into this, which I’m really proud of because I think it will really set this film apart.”
With official pictures finally arriving, fans are expecting Marvel Studios to roll out the first Captain Marvel trailer soon.
Captain Marvel will arrive in theaters on March 8, 2019.
