Since Brie Larson’s cameo in Ms. Marvel season finale, The Marvels movie has been the talk of the town among fans, especially with 2022 SDCC’s Hall-H event right around the corner. The 2023 MCU title is once again making news as reports claim the Captain Marvel sequel will be a Musical in parts though not all are in favor of it.
The Marvels movie will see two newcomer powerhouses, WandaVision star Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) colliding with Larson’s Captain Marvel. A difficult task for a two-hour film, which director Nia DaCosta has also been candid about, “how do we honor the part of the story they’re at in terms of the canon, while also within our story making them equal?”. It seems part of that answer lies in possibly adopting a comic storyline involving musical elements.
The rumor comes from credible Insider DanielRPK that The Marvels will introduce a world where speaking through rhymes is the only form of communication. It seems this bit of the movie would include musical elements though it’s unclear to what extent it would be. Marvel has played around with the concept of a musical in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy. It will be interesting to see it fit in with the larger plot. Meanwhile, DC will also dip its feet in musicals with Todd Phillips’ Joker 2.
Its way early for Marvel Studios to officially reveal that musical elements will tie in with The Marvels story. But fanatics are still on the lookout for a possible first look teaser at San Diego Comic-Con 2022.
The Marvels movie hits theatres on July 28, 2023.
