Cancel Percy trends as Netflix’s Wednesday reportedly removes Percy Hynes White’s Xavier Thrope character from season 2 but actors’ fans pushback

Netflix’s Wednesday season 2 is yet to begin production though a new rumor claims actor Percy Hynes White will not return to play Xavier Thrope. A decision prompted by the sexual assault accusations against the star that arose in January 2023. But the actor’s supporters are pushing back with #savePercy while detractors use the hashtag #cancelpercy.

While the series’ stans have longed to see Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday Addams and Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers) paired up, it seemed evident the showrunners would push Xaxier Thrope as Addams’ romantic interest. But that prediction came crashing down when multiple users on Twitter/X began accusing Percy Hynes White of sexual assault and racism.

Percy’s parents denied all claims with the actor also issuing a statement calling it, a “Campaign of Misinformation”. While fans expected an investigation into the allegations, there were no updates from Netflix as well. However, DailyMail says Percy Hynes White won’t appear in Wednesday season 2 as Netflix has “written out” his character.

The portal also states their source is an individual associated with the close circles of Percy’s family. However, Netflix informed DailyMail that they are unable to decide on casting at the moment due to the ongoing strike. Similarly, neither is Percy Hynes White in a position to respond to the report due to the Actors Strike barring him from addressing an AMPTP-produced project.

In the aftermath of the report, detractors are once again reminded of the incidents that played out including the actor’s social media activities that many branded as racist comments. But Hynes White argued in his statement stating it as “examples of me acting in character were presented as hateful.”

If Netflix decided to write out Xavier Thrope, the decision may have occurred before the WGA strike since the writers are highly unlikely to write out the character unless Netflix approached nonunion writers to engage in scabbing. Nonetheless, there appears to be a growing call to replace the actor. Still, readers are cautioned to take this news with a grain of salt.

Meanwhile, Wenclair fans (the femslash ship given by the fandom) are expecting Netflix’s Wednesday season 2 to shift the focus on their favorite characters. Even Ortega has supported the idea, “In a perfect world, we would have been a thing.”

Netflix’s Wednesday season 2 does not have a release date scheduled by Netflix yet but if the WGA & Actors Strike is resolved by the end of 2023 – fans could be looking at a potential premiere date sometime in 2025.
