Captain Marvel movie might introduce the very crucial character of Rick Jones. As per the requirements specified in the casting call by the MCU, it is quite likely that the character in question is Rick Jones.
A new casting call by Marvel to play a supporting lead role indicates the inclusion of Rick Jones in Marvel’s first ever female super hero film Captain Marvel, scheduled to hit the theaters in 2019. The casting call for Captain Marvel, as per The Hashtag Show reads: “[UNKNOWN MALE] Supporting Lead Male (35-59) Intelligent, but can throw a punch. Open ethnicity. Sounds like he may be tied to a well-known character.”
Even though we cannot be sure from the casting call if the specified character is indeed Rick Jones, we know that this character is the one who caused Bruce Banner’s accident, leading him to transform to Hulk in 1962. (As a young boy, Jones had driven onto the range where Bruce Banner was busy getting his gamma bomb tested. A bomb explosion occurred when Banner ran to save Jones. The explosion triggered Bruce’s transformation into The Hulk). Jones has also been a sidekick to the Hulk and the original Captain Marvel. Rick Jones has thus impacted the Marvel Universe in a big way.
Captain Marvel will begin production for a week in January/February. After a break, it will then resume shooting full-time from March 2018 onward. While we can only make guess works at this moment until official confirmation, it is quite likely that the character mentioned in the casting call is none other than longtime Marvel Comics sidekick Rick Jones.
Another reason to believe the inclusion of Jones in Captain Marvel is the presence of Jude Law, who will be playing Mar-Vell in the film. Jones is also a key factor in the Marvel Comic narrative in ending the Kree/Skrull War, which is the very basis for this film.
Character Rick Jones also has a sort of connection with Captain Marvel since they both were forced to share the same physical space. Only one person could be on earth at a time. So, while one is on earth, the other had to remain stuck in the Negative Zone until they swapped places.
Captain Marvel, which will hit the theaters on March 8, 2019 is being directed by Anna Boden, and Ryan Fleck. Brie Larson will essay the title role.
