It hasn’t been all positive vibes for Marvel Studios upcoming female-centric solo superhero title Captain Marvel. The movie initially faced negative criticism on Rotten Tomatoes from audiences due to their enraged opinion over the star of the movie Brie Larson. Fortunately for the studio, that wasn’t enough to bring down Captain Marvel as early reactions suggest the movie is going be a fun and 90s vibe experience for moviegoers.
The social media embargo for Captain Marvel was finally lifted and resulted in journalists praising the movie. The managing editor of Fandango also praised Captain Marvel for embracing the 90s retro aspect.
“#CaptainMarvel has a great ‘90s sci-fi vibe w/ a tone unlike any other Marvel movie, really. It’s retro & trippy, mysterious & dorky. It’s funny in surprising places & badass in all the right places. It remains entertaining because it’s always changing. It’s got the right stuff,” wrote Erik Davis of Fandango.
it is no surprise that most of the supporters for Captain Marvel are longtime fans who are familiar with the characters from the comics. Fortunately, the filmmakers seem to have done their part in including moments that would excite comic fans, or at least that’s what Comicbook.com’s Brandon Davis seems to be suggesting.
“Fans of #CaptainMarvel comics are going to love the movie. Plain and simple,” wrote Davis. You can check out their reactions below.
Any form early negativity surrounding Captain Marvel is unlikely to bother the studio since the movie’s tracking suggests it will open to $120 million or more domestically. The current trackings are higher than what was predicted before. It seems like the early positive reaction could also play a role in helping the movie perform better domestically.
Captain Marvel will hit theaters on March 8. Later on, all eyes are on Avengers: Endgame which will also star Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers and expected to have her on the forefront in the battle against Thanos.

CAPTAIN MARVEL isn’t what I expected based on marketing. It’s pretty much an “all in” cosmic space movie. Also, it’s a lot weirder than I expected. Ben Mendelsohn is awesome as Talos.

#CaptainMarvel is (takes deep 90s breath) TOTALLY AWESOME. Never related to a Marvel character quite like Carol. She’s the stubborn witty 90s kid I like to think I am. pic.twitter.com/H6Q9s90KHA

#CaptainMarvel is pure joy. I cannot wait for the generation of little girls who will grow up with Carol Danvers as a hero.

Captain Marvel is a blast! Has some cool surprises that I definitely didn't see coming, and the mystery/origin it weaves is engaging and fun. Brie Larson is awesome, and makes a fantastic first step into the MCU #CaptainMarvel pic.twitter.com/oqrRtgDQrp

Captain Marvel is an effective Avengers prequel in some ways akin to the 1st Captain America movie. It’s pro-woman without being overdone with pre and post credit scenes that made me tear up and gave me goosebumps respectively pic.twitter.com/or2Oj7CdRV

Love the cat, love Sam Jackson, LOVE Ben Mendelsohn, but honestly I’m calling Lashana Lynch as MVP. She brings an emotional weight to the film that is needed and transforms the entire movie upon arrival. Definitely need to see more of her#CaptainMarvel pic.twitter.com/QeEzUBM8O1

#CaptainMarvel is a great origin story. Brie’s buddy cop chemistry with @SamuelLJackson is so much fun and her relationship with Lashana Lynch is the real heart of it. Ben Mendelsohn and the cat both steal the show.
