‘Captain Marvel’: Jude Law To Play Male Lead Opposite Brie Larson

Jude Law has been cast as the male lead to play opposite Brie Larson in MCU’s Captain Marvel, Variety reports. Law will essay the character of Doctor Walter Lawson/Mar-Vell, who will be Carol Denver’s (Larson) mentor as she tries to understand her newfound powers.

The news of Jude Law being cast to play the male lead comes soon after reports of the MCU on the look-out for actors in key roles came out. Even though it is not very clear in the casting report, Mar-Vell in the comic books is the Kree warrior who was Carol Danvers’ mentor and namesake.

While Marvel fans will get to see Carol Danvers team up with earth’s superheroes in Avengers 4, they will get a better understanding of her character in her solo film Captain Marvel, which will hit the theaters before Avengers 4. The narrative is set in the early ’90s and will also feature Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. With Captain Marvel, the MCU will highlight the Kree-Skrull War as the plot traces Carol Danvers evolvement from an ace pilot to cosmic superhero.

Ben Mendelsohn will play the villain in this Marvel’s first female superhero movie. The film is being directed by Half Nelson helmers Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. Kevin Feige is producing the movie.

Captain Marvel is expected to introduce several big and new elements to the MCU, all of which will happen before the incidents in Avengers 4 movie.

Jude Law has just finished shooting for Woody Allen’s next movie with Elle Fanning. He will next begin shooting for the spy thriller The Rhythm Section opposite Blake Lively.

Captain Marvel is expected to hit the theaters on March 8, 2019. The script, written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet is based on an earlier draft by Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve.
