Chris McKay, who is currently busy working on DC Extended Universe’s Nightwing solo movie, might have already grabbed himself a new project. McKay is reportedly in talks with Paramount Pictures to direct a live-action Dungeons & Dragons movie. Negotiations are yet to be finalized.
Michael Gilio (Kwik Stop) will be penning the script for the Dungeons & Dragons movie, although there had been an earlier script by David Leslie Johnson (The Conjuring 2). The film is being produced by Stephen Davis, Brian Goldner, Roy Lee, Courtney Solomon and Allan Zeman. If all things go as planned, the upcoming movie will be one of the first to come out of Hasbro’s new movie studio, AllSpark Pictures, which was launched last October. The film studio also has a G.I. Joe reboot film in the works as well as a Micronauts movie.
A report from Trailer-Board revealed that according to their sources, Nightwing is “less of a priority.”This explains McKay reportedly shifting focus to another project for the studio.
The Warner Bros’ fantasy film Dungeons And Dragons is based on the popular tabletop role-playing game of the same name that began in 1974. The film has been in development since 2015, but the lawsuit between Hasbro and Sweetpea Entertainment over sequel rights to the movie adaptation of the game delayed the film’s progress.
It was after Hasbro settled the lawsuit with Sweetpea in 2015 that the project was transferred from Warner Bros. to Paramount Pictures and eventually to AllSpark after announcing the new studio. Nothing much about the film’s storyline, plot or star cast has yet been finalized. The Dungeons & Dragons film is scheduled to come out in 2021.
Talking about McKay, the LEGO Batman Movie director recently revealed that first script draft for Nightwing is almost complete. He ensured fans that they can expect something really big from the collaboration of DC, Geoff Johns, and the Warner Bros team. There’s currently no information regarding the film’s star cast. The film is likely to get rolled out by the end of 2019.
