Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig are following in Tom Cruise‘s footsteps to promote titles like Oppenheimer which are directly in competition with Barbie. The Babylon star and the Little Women director appear to have bought opening night tickets to watch Christopher Nolan‘s biopic, which explores the invention of the atomic bomb and starring Cillian Murphy in the titular role.
Tom Cruise has set off a wholesome challenge where filmmakers are showing support and promoting competitor movie titles. In this instance, blockbusters like Oppenheimer and Barbie which are lined up in the following week of Tom Cruise‘s Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning, set to release 9 days before the aforementioned movies.
Earlier on Wednesday, June 28, The Top Gun: Maverick actor share a photo holding tickets to Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Nolan’s biopic and Barbie. The Dead Reckoning director Christopher McQuarrie was also alongside the veteran action star to watch a “double feature“.
Oppenheimer fans want Christopher Nolan and Cillian to “flex” their Barbie tickets in a similar fashion
Similar to the Mission Impossible team, Barbie’s Greta Gerwig and Robbie shared a photo of their movie tickets to three titles the only exception is they replaced Barbie with Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning. Some were surprised by the picture and quizzed, “Did they watch 8 hours of movies in a day?” as DaveePena wrote in a tweet. Though it should be noted the filmmaker and actress pre-ordered tickets for the Thursday night screening of those titles.
As expected, cinephiles on social media are already asking for Nolan and Cillian Murphy to jump on the trend and watch Margot Robbie. It will be interesting to see both artists showing support for their works since movie buffs are not letting the Oppenheimer vs. Barbie debate settle down on Twitter.

On that topic, it is starting to look like the Pink-galore dreamland feature may dominate Nolan’s pic at the box office. The Mattel-based feature is currently tracking a $70-$80M on the opening weekend while the Cillian Murphy starrer is expected to pull in $40M which is on the lower end of the scale when compared to Nolan’s filmography. Though early predictions are subject to change as evident with The Flash’s opening weekend earnings.
there is also the question if the Atomic bomb feature would release in Japan due to the sensitive topic it addresses, the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. While that is yet to be finalized – it will be interesting to see an R-rated biopic go up against a PG-13 feature based on the world’s most popular doll. But the bigger question is if Nolan and Murphy would have the same level of enthusiasm to watch their competitor movies like Margot Robbie and Gerwig.
