‘Clay origin’: Wonder Woman rumor claims Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince story will be retconned in Paradise Lost series, fans speculate Historia comic adaptation

A new rumor indicates Gal Gadot‘s Wonder Woman is expected to remain in James Gunn‘s DCU by retconning Diana Prince’s origin story in Max’s DCU series, Paradise Lost. The prequel TV show was teased to be a Game of Thrones-style fantasy drama exploring the Amazonians from Themyscira Island.

Gal Gadot’s Princess Diana of Themyscira may still have wiggle room to stay on in the Gunnverse. However, it will not be for a threequel continuing her arc from the Snyderverse. According to an update from Scooper CWGST, Paradise Lost will change Gal Gadot’s WW origins from Patty Jenkin’s first film.

The insider shared this report on X along with the cover image of an acclaimed comic book, Wonder Woman Historia: The Amazons issue. A standalone 2018 comic run for DC Black Lable stories penned by Kelly Sue DeConnick.

This critically and fan-acclaimed historia comic explores the origin of The Amazons. when the warrior women were divided into five tribes led by Hestia, Artemis, Hippolyta and others. The story focuses entirely on the warriors and their gore-filled battle against the gods of Olympus.

Historia comic also changes the mythology around the Amazons’ inception by defining Themyscria as a prison for the warrior women to live for eternity. By the end of this comic, Diana Prince is offered as a gift to Hippolyta. Hera and other goddesses bestow life on a seaside clay turning transforming it into a baby.

If the rumor is true, it is starting to look like Gunn leans toward the DC Black Label stories. Although the DCU chief insists the All-Star Superman comic run (published under Black Label) will not serve as a direct adaptation for Superman: Legacy – the director has also dropped hints on the Grant Morrison run possibly serving as inspiration.

In fairness, there is no Wonder Woman project in development at the moment and the Max prequel series Paradise Lost does not have a writer or showrunner onboard yet. But considering that James Gunn would handle the outlining of the character’s future for DCU – it’s plausible to believe the latest rumor may have weight. In any case, readers are advised to take it with a grain of salt.

DCEU fans would remember the first Wonder Woman film revealing that Diana Prince was the biological daughter of Zeus. So it’s certainly an interesting pivot. Furthermore, the Historia comic is also a Gods and Monsters story with a touch of a human element so perhaps it’s more in line with Gunn’s plans for Chapter 1.

Paradise Lost is still TBA and is expected not to feature Diana Prince or at least the iteration that fans have grown to love from DC Extended Universe.
