It seems the legendary comic book artist and writer Jim Starlin is not pretty sure about Adam Warlock’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Adam Warlock was teased in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 mid-credits scene, which revealed Warlock’s golden cocoon as a creation of Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki), who is the High Priestess of the golden-skinned alien race the Sovereign.
Warlock was expected to make a debut in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. In fact, director James Gunn also had a specific plan for the character. But, unfortunately now, when Gunn is no longer associated with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Warlock’s fate presently remains unknown. The threequel’s production has been put on indefinite hold.
During an interview with Chuck Load of Comics at this weekend’s ACE Comic Con 2018 event in Chicago, Starlin said that he isn’t sure about what’s going to happen in the next GOTG film.
“At the time we’re recording this, the third Guardians movie is on indefinite hold. I don’t know what’s going to happen,” Starlin said. “I have my suspicions who they’re going to use for a director, but I’m not in that loop, so my guess is as good as anything you read online.”
Starlin also said that he is unsure but hopeful that Adam Warlock will eventually surface in the MCU.
“So how much of Gunn’s script remains, how much of the game plan using Warlock in this movie and maybe down the line, you know, Marvel has their own master plan that supersedes all the movies,” Starlin said. “Feige is basically the captain of that ship, so I don’t know what he has planned, but I have high hopes that we’ll see old Adam coming to life.”
The possible debut of Adam Warlock in Avengers 4 is also unlikely as directors Joe and Anthony Russo have already explained that they are not going to directly adapt the Infinity War comic book story.
