Creed 3 – producers “begged” Sylvester Stallone to appear as Rocky in threequel, Dolph Lundgren responds to Sly’s backlash to DRAGO spinoff & more on MGM’s Rocky franchise controversy

The producers behind Creed 3 and the Rocky movie franchise are caught in hot waters for reportedly greenlighting the Drago spinoff behind Sylvester Stallone’s back. Since then, the Rocky Balboa star has hit back against producer Irwin Winkler and his children as “parasites” for exploiting the boxing drama franchise. Meanwhile, new details have emerged regarding Creed III stating Sly is still being pursued to appear as the Italian Stallion.

MGM is caught in the crossfire for developing the Drago spinoff with Dolph Lundgren involved while the Rocky Balboa star claims he “just found this out” in a scathing social media post. Furthermore, his criticism that “I once had nothing but respect for Dolph but he NEVER told me about what was going on behind my back with the character I create for him” has prompted the Aquaman 2 star’s response as well. Around this developing controversy, many began questioning Sly’s absence in the Michael B. Jordan starring and helmed Creed 3 movie, and if the report from Showbiz 411 holds weight, the 76-year-old veteran actor was heavily pursued to make an appearance.

According to the showbiz report, Creed 3 still hasn’t been picture locked (A Hollywood term used to suggest the final stages of a project after editing wraps up). Moreover, the threequel’s producers have left a space for Stallone’s appearance. The insider claims “They’ve begged him to do it.” Earlier last week, news emerged that Creed III would release on March 3, 2023 instead of its November 23, 2022 theatrical date.

In the case of Lundgren – he’s responded to Sly’s rant that the spinoff has no deals in place, a director, or an approved script and claims “I was personally under the impression that my friend Sly Stallone was involved as a producer even as an actor.” Lundgren stated he’s contacted Mr Balboa.

It should be noted that Stallone departed from the Creed 3 franchise willingly since he saw no aspect of exploring Rocky further, “I bowed out of that one, I just didn’t know if there was any part for me. It takes it in a different direction.  I wish them well and keep punching!”

In regards to the Rocky spin-off feature, the aforementioned story argues that Stallone’s producing partner, Braden Aftergood signed off on the project after sitting in a pitching meeting for the movie in April. Still, readers are advised to take this news with a grain of salt.

Creed 3 also stars Jonathan Mayors, Tessa Thompson as Bianca, Phylicia Rashad as Mary Anne Creed and Tony Bellew as Ricky Conlan. The script was penned by Keenan Coogler from an outline by Director Ryan Coogler.
