Recent reports revealed that the ongoing Justice League reshoots have adjusted the tone of Ray Fisher’s Cyborg to lighten up his portrayal in the movie. The news was a reminder of the character’s significance in the upcoming film.
Recently, Fisher explained a bit more about Cyborg during his panel discussion at Asia Pop Comic-Con Philippines. The actor spoke about how he learned more about the character and revealed that the adaptation is different for a new era. Here’s what he had to say.
“He’s a very real and grounded character and that’s something I found really exciting to bring to the table,” Said Fisher. I love the cartoon, but this is a different Cyborg, A new Cyborg for the new era.” Readers can check it out in the clip below.
Many fans would have found it hard to accept Cyborg as a dark and gritty or simply a grim character in Justice League. Unlike the comics, the character’s portrayal in cartoons such as Teen Titans depicted him to be fun and enthusiastic, similar to The Flash.
It looks like one of the points of the ongoing reshoots was to develop Cyborg’s representation in the movie. While it may be justified that his character is a bit grumpy due to the events that turned him into a bionic man, Warner Bros. won’t look to depict his character similar to The Batman from BvS due to the backlash it received for being dark and gritty.
It’s understandable that Snyder decided to shift the character’s tone to go along with the rest of the superheroes. Moreover, going by Fisher’s comment, it looks like the new portrayal would be different from the versions we have come across in DCAU.
Justice League hits theatres on November 17th this year. The film will be Fisher’s first appearance with longer screen time. The character was first introduced as a cameo in Batman v Superman.
