Daredevil Born Again: Here’s why Matt Murdock won’t suit up in certain episodes & Wilson Fisk sets aside his Kingpin alter-ego, details

Daredevil Born Again will see Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) casting aside the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen alter-ego and so will Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) as the feared Kingpin in a few episodes exploring their lives outside their darker personalities. Plot and character details of the MCU Disney Plus series have surfaced online thanks to a copyright listing. However, it also contains some disappointing news for fans expecting the series in 2024.

Matt will be shifting his attention towards Murdock & Associates, the law firm set out with Kirsten McDuffie (Nikki M. James) in Daredevil Born Again. According to the series description revealed in an official listing, “Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk try to leave behind their darker alter-egos to serve the people of New York only to have their pasts catch up to them.”

The focus on Matt’s life as a lawyer would set aside the vigilante suit in some episodes, according to scooper CWGST. But it shouldn’t necessarily take away the action with characters like The Punisher (Jon Bernthal) appearing in the series.

Meanwhile, Fisk’s true motive remains the same: taking control of New York City. Though turns to politics rather than choosing the path of an underworld criminal (much like DC’s Lex Luthor). Daredevil Born Again will show Fisk running for office as NYC’s Mayor.

Rumors indicate Kingpin’s transition into politics is expected to be hinted at in the Echo series. Charlie Cox has reportedly filmed a cameo appearance for the Alaqua Cox starrer spin-off too so it will be interesting to see if Murdock’s inclination towards a life without crime fighting could be addressed in the show.

It’s also possible Matt & Fisk’s alter-egos are forced to come to light due to the serial killer antagonist Muse, striking horror in the people of NYC, especially considering the characters’ story in the comics. However, it is unclear why Matt would choose to hang up the Daredevil costume.

Interestingly, Matt’s appearance in She-Hulk shows him highlighting the positive side of vigilantism, to the point of supporting the existence of his alter-ego. “The way I see it, Jen Walters can use the law when society fails. And She-Hulk can help people when the law fails,” says Matt. Perhaps, a specific incident later could influenced his decision.

Daredevil Born Again will arrive on Disney Plus in January 2025.
