Movie productions in Hollywood can be tough on actors unless they are accustomed to being an early riser, especially for massive blockbusters such as the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Star Dave Bautista, reprising as Drax in the MCU threequel, recently shared his disappointment over starting the day early and it seems like his character’s hours-long process of makeup is the reason behind it.

Filming has begun on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as director James Gunn also took to social media to share a still of the main cast together on set. But celebrations aside, Bautista’s update on the Marvel Studios-produced third installment reveals the difficult part of prepping up for filming, possibly hours before the sun is up.

“Good morning, everyone. It is Day One on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” the superstar spoke to his followers via an Instagram Stories video shared early Monday morning. “This will be my sixth appearance as Drax. My sixth Marvel film and at this point, 20-something films under my belt.”

Bautista was quick to address his frustrations over early-morning shoots and stated: “I’m still trying to find out why the f-ck do films start so early? It’s still dark outside!”

Back in May, The DUNE star addressed the painstaking process of getting into the role of Drax. Though Bautista has grown fond of playing the Marvel Universe character, it seems the behind-the-scenes work is too much to bear at times.

Well, I’m looking forward to being back with my friends. I like the camaraderie. I’m in a weird place with Drax because I’ve played Drax so many times, I’m on cruise control. I love the character, but getting in the makeup, it’s just a nightmare,” the actor joked speaking to Comicbook. “I couldn’t explain how awful it is. I hate to sound like one of those high-maintenance actors, but it’s just traumatizing.”

“Once I’m in it and I’m on set with my friends and making this character come to life and interacting with these characters that I love so much as a fan, it’s all fun and joy,” he added. “Throughout the years, maybe because I’ve gotten older and more sensitive to it, (the makeup’s) become more unbearable, but the one thing I’m just looking forward to is closing out this journey of Drax.”

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will hit theaters on May 5, 2023. But fans interested in seeing Bautista on the big screen can watch Denis Villeneuve’s DUNE on IMAX in theaters or on HBO Max.
