Scream 6 is in development and co-director Tyler Gillett has already teased Sidney (Neve Campbell) and Gale’s (Courteney Cox) involvement but what of the other legacy actor David Arquette’s Dewey? Is there any room to see Woodsboro sheriff’s return from his gory slasher death? Maybe it’s a possibility in the realm of “multiverse”.
Arquette’s portrayal of the wholesome police officer Dewey certainly stands on top of the list of the Scream franchise’s legacy. Although the fan-beloved character has survived several encounters against Ghostface over 25 years through four films, Scream 5 delivered his heartbreaking death. Dewey was gut from both ways, taking away any hope of survival.
Dewey’s death is still considered a betrayal by long-time fans of Wes Craven‘s slasher franchise. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise Arquette was once again questioned about his possible return for Scream 6. However, his optimistic response only has hope if the franchise follows the comic book movie’s route of the multiverse.

Ghostface in Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media Group’s “Scream.”
Speaking to Empire for the June 2022 issue, discussing his time portraying the life of Dewey Riley in all Scream movies – Arquette was asked if he’d return for the sixth installment. “Dewey’s gone. I mean, you never know. There’s the multiverse, but I don’t think Dewey would appear in a multiverse!”
Jokes aside, with the Scream franchise growing larger than ever, maybe there’s room for a Ghostface vs. Ghostface from an alternate timeline? Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. But Speaking to Empire for the March issue, Gillett did indicate that the next film should take risks on all fronts to meet fan expectations.
“This movie has to be willing to risk it all in order to subvert all of those expectations. And we’re so far down the rabbit hole of Scream movies, that it’s all up for grabs at this point.”
Scream 5 is currently available on 4K, Ultra HD Blu-ray and DVD. Scream 6 is scheduled to hit theatres on March 31, 2022.
