DC fans react to Ava DuVernay’s remark on New Gods cancellation related to Snyder cut [REACTIONS]

New Gods movie cancellation seems to be related to Zack Snyder’s Justice League, or at least according to Ava DuVernay’s recent remarks. Dissent among disappointed DC fans has already begun on social media with many questioning the correlation behind axing the Jack Kirby-inspired film after the Snyder cut revealed a version of Darkseid.

The A Wrinkle In Time director had earlier signed a deal with Warner Bros. to helm and write a New Gods project. Legendary DC Comics writer Tom King was also brought on board for the Jack Kirby-inspired live-action. However, even after several strong updates confirming its active development, the studio ultimately axed the project.

Speaking with Sirius XM, Ava DuVernay revealed the News Gods faced cancellation since Warners weren’t planning on further exploring a Snyderverse narrative, especially with a pivotal New Gods character making his first appearance in Snyder’s version of Justice League.

“I loved New Gods, which is the project that got axed. The studio decided that they did not want to pursue a certain part of that comic world based on some things that were going on with another film in that world,” DuVernay revealed. “So, before I even was able to kind of complete my script with Tom King, they axed it. But I already had two projects going.”

Backlash against Warner Bros. and Zack Snyder fans over New Gods cancellation remarks

Reactions so far have been divided with some fans blaming the Snyder cut community for News Gods cancellation. On the other side of fandom, concerns were raised over Warner Bros. decision to axe both the Snyderverse and Jack Kirby’s Fourth World-based film. You can check out reactions below.

Some hit back at backlash against Zack Snyder and his fans for the cancellation behind News Gods.

It must be noted Warner Bros. announced their decision to cancel News Gods two weeks post the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League.  The 4-hour long directors cut introduced Ray Porter as Darkseid, the true antagonist behind Steppenwolf’s invasion of Earth.

No hopes remain at the moment for Zack’s “Snyderverse” expansion in DCEU. Earlier, the director had confirmed plans for setting up Darkseid as the main villain in a Justice League 2 and 3 film. The director’s planned five-film arc (including Man of Steel, Batman v Superman) would have wrapped up with a final battle against the forces of Apokolips with Superman at the forefront of Justice League and Wonder Woman leading the Amazonians from Themyscira, Aquaman with his Atlantis army.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League is still available to stream on HBO Max.
