DC fans react to Warner Bros. Discovery reportedly rebuilding DC Entertainment, wants to renew Superman IP & more

As DC fans anticipated, the Warner Bros. merger with Discovery looks to change the studio’s creative approach towards its blockbuster IP, DC Entertainment. Furthermore, It seems the new holders are looking to bolster top-tier franchises like Superman, a character last played by Henry Cavill in Justice League.

Warner Media and Discovery’s $43 billion deal has left CEO David Zaslav with one massive entertainment empire comparable to the likes of Disney. Speaking of which, Variety‘s new report shares WBD’s plans to rebuild their approach to DC Entertainment. The new head has been on the hunt to hire a Kevin Feige-type chief, overseeing creative and strategic necessities to herald the DC Comics-based movie franchise. But, Zaslav’s plans extended outside the movie purview with an interest to boost gaming as well.

Reaction to the DC Entertainment overhaul news has stoked fan’s opinion over who is more qualified to run business at Warner Bros. Discovery’s DC brand. Some are insisting on comic book veteran Jim Lee as the perfect choice to lead DC Cinematic while others throw around names such as Greg Berlanti, known for establishing the Arrowverse for The CW.

Meanwhile, few critics think the studio is heading in the right direction with the current strategy which supports filmmaker-driven storytelling in superhero flicks rather than sticking to MCU’s formula of connected world-building. Readers can check out reactions below.

It’s uncertain if the new changes would restore the Snyderverse as an Elseworld universe. But the new execs are in support of exploring second-tier characters like Joker, and exploiting it possibly as its own franchise with spinoffs. Upcoming projects such as Batgirl and The Flash are already on route to establishing second billing superheroes with Sasha Calle‘s Supergirl and Jurnee Smollett‘s Black Canary getting the spotlight as new-gen.

Prior to the merger, Rumors from insiders have indicated plans of developing characters from the Bat-family namely Nightwing and Red Hood. Additionally, its also been hinted Nightwing appears in Batgirl though fans are advised to take this news with a grain of salt. With WB Games also working on a Gotham Knights game, the new boss’s plans to incorporate gaming and visual content could even be explored by experimenting with these upcoming titles.
