As DC fans anticipated, the Warner Bros. merger with Discovery looks to change the studio’s creative approach towards its blockbuster IP, DC Entertainment. Furthermore, It seems the new holders are looking to bolster top-tier franchises like Superman, a character last played by Henry Cavill in Justice League.
Warner Media and Discovery’s $43 billion deal has left CEO David Zaslav with one massive entertainment empire comparable to the likes of Disney. Speaking of which, Variety‘s new report shares WBD’s plans to rebuild their approach to DC Entertainment. The new head has been on the hunt to hire a Kevin Feige-type chief, overseeing creative and strategic necessities to herald the DC Comics-based movie franchise. But, Zaslav’s plans extended outside the movie purview with an interest to boost gaming as well.
Reaction to the DC Entertainment overhaul news has stoked fan’s opinion over who is more qualified to run business at Warner Bros. Discovery’s DC brand. Some are insisting on comic book veteran Jim Lee as the perfect choice to lead DC Cinematic while others throw around names such as Greg Berlanti, known for establishing the Arrowverse for The CW.
Meanwhile, few critics think the studio is heading in the right direction with the current strategy which supports filmmaker-driven storytelling in superhero flicks rather than sticking to MCU’s formula of connected world-building. Readers can check out reactions below.
DC Films doesn't need an overhaul or reboot. The post-Snyder stuff (WONDER WOMAN, AQUAMAN, SHAZAM, JOKER, WW84, etc.) were what we claimed to want – filmmaker-driven superhero flicks of varying size and scale not beholden to continuity and able to live and die on their own terms. pic.twitter.com/G5R0KzZX1Q

The closet thing they had to a Feige like leader was Snyder and things were going smoothly when he was around cuz there was an actual clear plan and Zack knew how collab with other directors very well. The slate was organized. That's the truth whether you like his movies or not. https://t.co/8hFl0nVS2y

Warner Bros. Discovery are exploring a potential overhaul on DC Entertainment.
I have been saying this for years. They need to abandon this shared universe/multiverse concept, focus on standalone films like JOKER & THE BATMAN, & give us SUPERMAN. https://t.co/OC9cBw0use

Superman is a brand from video games, comic books, films that can be as lucrative or maybe more than any other comic book franchise. Warner Bros Discovery has a chance to rectify everything. #Superman #RestoreTheSnyderVerse pic.twitter.com/8wpkU7A0sn

I want a good #DC Universe. One that I can clearly follow and see the connection between films/series. That is why I am excited for Warner Bros Discovery. To improve the #DCEU. Restoring the #SnyderVerse would be a bonus.

Everyone is choosing Jim Lee because of his knowledge of comics but I would like to bring Greg Berlanti or Steven Knight into the conversation to be in charge of the Dc property for Warner Bros. Discovery.

Warner Bros Discovery believes that several top-shelf characters have been left to languish and need to be revitalized. With that being said, here are characters I believe they've done 100% right by and don't need fixing. pic.twitter.com/lHPPOzwUWB

We're really gonna get a shit ton of terrible edge lord DC movies due to the execs at Warner Bros. Discovery thinking that Joker was cinema and BIRDS OF PREY wasn't.
This is how I will become the Joker.

It’s uncertain if the new changes would restore the Snyderverse as an Elseworld universe. But the new execs are in support of exploring second-tier characters like Joker, and exploiting it possibly as its own franchise with spinoffs. Upcoming projects such as Batgirl and The Flash are already on route to establishing second billing superheroes with Sasha Calle‘s Supergirl and Jurnee Smollett‘s Black Canary getting the spotlight as new-gen.
Prior to the merger, Rumors from insiders have indicated plans of developing characters from the Bat-family namely Nightwing and Red Hood. Additionally, its also been hinted Nightwing appears in Batgirl though fans are advised to take this news with a grain of salt. With WB Games also working on a Gotham Knights game, the new boss’s plans to incorporate gaming and visual content could even be explored by experimenting with these upcoming titles.
