Earlier at San Diego Comic-Con, The DCEU fans were treated with an exciting early scoop on Shazam. It was revealed that the project had finally found a director and that was none other than David F. Sandberg.
The surprising news came to light during Sandberg’s interview with Kevin Smith at San Diego Comic-Con. The director was asked about a rumor that he was approached to helm a comic book movie.
Sandberg shocked Smith with a single word, “Shazam”. The director also revealed that he has had discussions with DC film boss Geoff John on taking on the project as well. Fans can check it out in the video below.
As exciting the news sounds, some fans were concerned about a recent report which revealed that Shazam wouldn’t feature Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam. Unfortunately, the news seems to be true.
Johns recently confirmed to Yahoo that Johnson won’t be a part of Shazam. However, the actor is still on board DCEU to play as Black Adam. Here’s what he had to say.
“We haven’t announced any casting yet, but Dwayne isn’t going to be in this movie. He’s still doing Black Adam, but he won’t be in Shazam!”
It’s quite disappointing to hear that Black Adam won’t star as the main supervillain in Shazam. For those unaware, the character is known to be Captain Marvel’s arch enemy in DC Universe.
Earlier, it was also rumored that Johnson could make his screen debut as Black Adam in Man of Steel sequel. However, there has been no word on it yet.
THR has confirmed that Shazam would go into production in January or February of 2018 and is expected to hits theaters in 2019. It is likely that fans will hear more about it during Warner Bros. presentation at SDCC in Hall H.
