Deadpool 2 Director Explains Jean Grey’s Exclusion From X-Men Cameo Scene

It won’t be wrong to call 2018 the year for superhero movies. From Marvel Studios’ Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Ant-Man and the Wasp to Fox’s Deadpool 2, all the superhero flicks have reigned the global box office so far. While Deadpool 2 grossed less domestically as compared to the first film, it was very well received by the critics as well as the audiences.

There’s one particular scene in the film which showed the X-Men: Apocalypse cast in a room at the X-Mansion including Professor X, Cyclops, Quicksilver, Storm, Nightcrawler, and Beast. Although the cameo was a brief one, audiences were quick enough to notice Jean Grey’s (Sophie Turner) absence from the cameo group scene. They started coming up with their own theories justifying Jean’s absence. Some claimed that Jean wasn’t in the scene as her character dies in the upcoming X-Men film, which takes place years before the events of Deadpool 2.

During a recent interview with Den of Geek, when Deadpool 2 director David Leitch was faced with the same question, he revealed that it all came down to scheduling.

It might have been one of those things where we’re up against it, and it’s like, who’s available that day by the time we had to get the shot and get it down to us…we’re grateful to have anyone we could get at that point,” Leitch said.

When asked if he is a one-and-done type of guy who completes one project and then moves to another, Leitch said that given a chance he would definitely love to work again with Deadpool team.

No, I’m not necessarily one and done,” the Deadpool 2 director said. “I would love to work with Ryan and Rhett and Paul and Simon again. We just had a really good time and I love this world, and I love this universe, and I love the character that he’s made so endearing to the fans, and so I would be grateful to work on something again. It just depends on time and place, so we’ll see what happens.”

Deadpool 2 is now available everywhere, in digital format and on Blu-ray.
